Art Gallery

Throughout the year, the walls of the Clubhouse host the work of different artists.
April/May 2018
Kathy Whalley is our April/May artist for the Gallery and her paintings can be see from 20 April through to 31 May
at the Clubhouse. She will be holding her vernissage (preview) on Sunday 22 April from 15.00 to 18.00; everyone is
welcome to enjoy this magical group of paintings.
Kathy Whalley (née Cooper) had the good fortune of a great art teacher in the sixth form. He was to change the course of her life.  Instead of pursuing a science career, Kathy studied Architecture and Planning, but only worked as an architect for three years before setting up her own business, selling craft supplies. She sold her business 4 years ago and since then has taken up painting. Now she is delighted to wake up worrying about light and dark, shape
and form, colour combinations and how to paint that shadow, instead of VAT returns and employment contracts!

She is passionate about painting and would rather be painting than anything else, but she is still a beginner, exploring techniques, colour and ways of painting. This is visible in the varied styles and approaches of her paintings. Increasingly, she is focusing on colour and atmosphere. She wants the viewer of her painting to smile, be comforted or amused, but will also paint challenging images, expressing her concern for the environment and human condition.

March 2018
The artist exibiting at the Gallery in March is Bernadette van Haverbeke. Using various techniques and wide range of materials she produces bright and expressive paintings.
Bernadette was born in Overijse in 1944 and at school, always preferred scribbling on her exercise books rather than studying from them. Bernadette started drawing and painting at an early age and continued to perfect her skills even while raising her family. She has followed various artistic courses and classes and is well known in the Brabant region.
She describes herself as a 'free electron' always searching, experimenting and trying out new techniques. She says she has been actively creative for many years and finds herself at the cross roads of various schools of painting.
Through her art, she would like to share with others the richness her life experience has brought her. This vision includes her emotions, her memories and her dreams .
Bernadette will be holding her vernissage (Preview) at the Clubhouse on Sunday 4 March between 16.00 and 18.00. Art lovers are welcome.

January 2018
Our January Gallery is pleased to show the works of an international photographic group based in Brussels.
“Âamet et Marolles” – Brussels street photography.
An exhibition by Viewfinders Photography Club of Brussels.

We are “Viewfinders”. We do photography. We come from nearby; we come far away. We speak English as a lingua franca, though our hearts beat to the rhythm of Brusseleir as any Ketje’s does. We made this exhibition because we love Brussels. Extending our theme “Bruxelles, ma belle. Ik zien a geire…”, it is an intimate portrait of the Old Market (“Aâmet”), the historic Marolles district and Brussels streets more generally, where the vibrant wonders of
Brussels past and present make an intense fabric for daily life.

The exhibition was opened for the first time at “La Clef d’Or” café, looking out over the famous Brussels flea-market. Closer to the beating heart of the city it is simply not possible to get! Now, for you, we are proud to show our work for the British and Commonwealth Women’s Club. From January 8 to 31.

Their Review (Vernissage) will be held at the Clubhouse on Tuesday 9 January from 18.00 to 20.00. All members and friends are very welcome to come and meet the photographers and discover 'real hidden gems' in Brussels.

Gallery Coordinator

November 2017
The artist for the November/December gallery is Uta GramkeHausmann. She has a diploma in fashion, graphic design and painting. Uta started her professional life in Hamburg doing designs for the German lifestyle magazine Zuhause. After two years working there, she decided to study fashion and graphic design in the applied science department of the University of Hamburg. Her studies took her four years to complete but were worth all the effort to obtain a Diploma of Honour. Leaving university she worked as a freelancer for different international clients. For example, she worked for a group of Norwegian, Danish and German textile importers making collections of womenswear based in Honkong, Denmark and Italy. During this time also, she was giving advice to magazines and advertising agencies on fashion through her designs and graphic expertise which greatly enhanced the articles produced by the agencies.

When Uta moved to Belgium, painting and graphic design became her main focus. Her interest lies in objects in nature like flowers, animals and people. Her favourite painting materials are acrylic and gouache when painting on canvas or cardboard.

If anyone is interested to know and see more of Uta's work her website is: www.Arfa.eu

The Gallery Preview (vernissage) is being held at the Clubhouse on 3 November ( Friday late afternoon ) from 16.00 to 19.00. All are welcome to come, to meet this interesting artist and to see a selection of her exciting and varied artworks.
